Discover the world of Abiquiu, New Mexico Artists. Three fulldays of over 34 studios open during one of the most beautiful times of the year in Northern New Mexico. The Abiquiu Studio Tour is a self-guided tour that takes visitors and collectors through the Village of Abiquiu, the Pueblo of Abiquiu and the surrounding Chama Valley – a land of imposing mountains, spectacular rock formations and the glorious rivers of the Piedra Lumbre basin.
Inhabited for centuries by native Americans beforeand after the Spanish settled in 1692, Abiquiu Village continues to attract a steadily growing community of traditional and contemporary artists. It is especailly well known as the thome of the internationally known painter, Georgia O’Keeffe, who made it her permanent home. Visitos come to her house in the Village and to visit the nreaby Ghost Ranch Education and Retreat Center where she had a studio nestled in the dramatic landscape that inspired her artistry.
On view willl be a vertical timeline of contemporary arts and traditional crafts of the region. From signature Native American micaeous clay pottery and Hispanic inspired retablos, santos and furniture, to contemporary paintings, sculpture, jewelry, photographs, ceramics, textiles and wearable art.
A gallery exhibit of tour participants can be viewed beginning September 3rd in The Galeria at The Abiquiu Inn. This show gives a sample overview of what can be seen at the studios.
