The Questa Studio Tour will be the first of the 2017 artist studio tours in Northern New Mexico. On August 19th-20th, artists from Questa and the surrounding communities will open their studios to share their talent and offer unique, hand-crafted works for sale. This truly is “Where Artistic Traditions Meet”. Just a half-hour north of Taos, a new generation of artists is creating quite a name for this historic little community.
Surrounded by protected wilderness, with hiking trails into the Rio Grande gorge, and mountaintop lakes to fish and explore, this area has a long history of traditional art and crafts. This could not be more evident than in the recently-restored St. Anthony’s church where everything from the new stained glass to the recreated tin sconces was handmade locally, often by members of the same families who built this historic, adobe church in the mid-1800’s. This is just one of the stops on a truly unique studio tour that is slated to include artist studios and satellite locations where the more far-flung artists will gather.
This is a chance to explore beautiful mountain settlements, discover the dramatic overlooks at the Wild Rivers area of the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, or drive around the Enchanted Circle, for a day full of beautiful scenery and beautiful art.
